The first shows were held in 1829 in Boston and exhibited various fruits and vegetables. Since its inception the New England Spring Flower Show has always been organized by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, a nonprofit organization which is dedicated to encouraging the science and practice of horticulture, but also developing the public's enjoyment, appreciation, and understanding of plants and the environment.
